Maori Wahaika Mere Hand Carved Wooden Ceremonial Weapon

The Wahaika belongs to the Meremere or short combat Maori weapons group. The carved carved figurine is to protect the warrior should he be attacked from behind. The Wahaika was used where quick fighting action was needed. This wood fighting implement is 13-3/4" long x about 5" wide, with the same carved designs and inlaid paua shell circles on both sides. These authentic Maori Meres (ceremonial clubs) are beautifully hand carved in New Zealand from richly grained native hardwoods, then smoothed and polished. Each has exquisitely carved traditional details and paua shell inlays. Fantastic for performances of men's or women's Hakas or to display as treasured works of authentic indigenous Maori art. Amazingly excellent craftsmanship!
